Getting something removed

If material here is yours and is being used without permission, tell us and we will remove it. We act on notices whether or not they are formally perfect — but the more of the following a notice has, the faster it moves, and these are the things a formal notice under the DMCA is required to contain:

• What was taken. The work you hold rights in, identified well enough to recognise: a link to the original, a registration, a store page.
• Where it is here. The full URL of every page it appears on. “Somewhere in your screenshots” is the difference between an hour and a week.
• Who you are. Name, email address, and whether you are the rights holder or acting for one.
• Two statements. That you believe in good faith the use is not authorised, and that the information in the notice is accurate and you are authorised to act.
• Your signature, physical or typed.

We remove first and ask questions after, for anything that looks credible. The person who posted it is told what was removed and why, and can reply — if they do, and the reply holds up, the material may go back and you will be told before it does. Repeated infringement ends an account.

One thing to check before writing: game titles, cover art and screenshots of games are used here to identify the games being discussed, which is normally fair use or fair dealing. If that is what you have found, a notice is still welcome, and the reply may be a reasoned no rather than a removal.

Impersonation and stolen identity

A handle, avatar or bio pretending to be you is a rules problem rather than a legal one, and it is handled faster. Send the profile link and something showing the account is yours to impersonate — the linked social account, the channel, the studio address. Handles are reassigned and profiles are cleared without waiting for a formal notice.

The same goes for a studio or publisher finding an account posing as its official presence. We have no verified-account programme; what we have is the ability to take the name away, quickly.

Personal information

Somebody’s address, phone number, real name, workplace or private photographs, posted without their agreement, comes down on sight. This is the one category where you do not need to explain yourself, and it does not matter whether the information is accurate or already available somewhere else.

If it is about you and you would rather not put it in writing to a stranger, saying “this comment is about me, please remove it” is enough.

What happens after you send it

You get a reply from a person, not a ticket number. The usual outcomes are removal, removal plus a moderation action against the account that posted it, or a reasoned refusal with what it would take to change our minds. Anything urgent — personal information, threats, material involving minors — is acted on before it is answered.

Notices and what we did about them are kept as part of the moderation record described in the privacy policy. Your contact details are used to reply to you and to pass to the person whose material was removed if they formally contest it, which is what makes a counter-notice possible at all — if that would be a problem, say so in the notice.

Things this page is not for

• A rating you disagree with. Difficulty scores are opinion, and a bad review of a game is not a takedown matter — write your own, it will count for exactly as much.
• A moderation decision you think was wrong. That has its own route, and it is faster.
• Deleting your own account or content. That is a button in Settings, and it does not need anybody’s permission.
